Basic Information about 2012 Oak Knoll Science Fair

Date: Wednesday March 14 (grades 2 & 3) and Thursday March 15 (grades 4 & 5)

What is the Oak Knoll Science Fair?

The Oak Knoll Science Fair is a gathering of students who present projects of their own choosing during the evening of Wednesday March 14th and Thursday March 15th, 2012.  Families, friends and teachers will be invited to attend the Fair and observe students’ projects.

Who can participate in the Oak Knoll Science Fair?

This is a voluntary event that will require a student to select a topic of interest to explore and then prepare a three-minute presentation.  Both visual and oral presentations will be required.  Students should be ready to talk about their project. This event is open to students in grades 2-5.

What is your role as a parent?

  • Students will be provided a start-up package that includes a list of potential topics to explore or they can develop their own.
  • Parents will be responsible for purchasing the supplies needed to explore the topic/experiment.   We prefer you not purchase “science kits”.   (Oak Knoll Science will provide the tri-fold poster board to show and share the child’s experiment/findings.  Scholarships are also available.)
  • If needed, parents should help to oversee their child’s project, but should not do it.
  • Science mentors will be available to answer students' questions and assist with their science projects.
  • Parents must ensure student meets various deadlines for the Science Fair.
  • Parents will need to help their child set up/take down their project at the Science Fair.
